Atlas 4D on Discovery Channel

Discovery Channel’s Emmy award-winning Atlas was in 2006 the most ambitious HD television project ever to go into production. After the undeniable success of the franchise, Modus FX worked on the visual effects for Atlas 4D, being three one-hour episodes produced in 3D by Darlow Smithson Productions. The first episode will be airing on Sunday, March 21st, at 10PM EST on the Discovery Channel.

Modus FX is proud to have taken part in the Atlas 4D shows, producing state-of-the-art visual effects such as the signature “4D Timewarp”. This series transports viewers through a journey of millions of years, a time-travel experience featuring an ingenious blend of narration and breathtaking landscapes. The TV special takes a new approach to demystifying the evolution of geology and climate, unmasking the natural beauty of the world and unearthing the lives of indigenous peoples through the use of groundbreaking technology.

Episode 1 - Great Rift Valley

35 million years ago, the Great Rift transformed Africa and changed history. Atlas 4D reveals the surprising connections between the Rift, the land, the animals and people that inhabit it today. Ultimately, the Rift Valley will reach a cataclysmic end.

Episode 2 - Hawaii

Discover how an ancient ice age provided Polynesian settlers in Hawaii with a breakthrough technology...

Episode 3 - The Mediterranean

The third episode will unveil, among other things, how the spread of Islam sparked the Italian Renaissance.
